The A. Janet DeFulvio Wildlife Sanctuary Boardwalk

woods allows visitors to wander beneath a pine/oak canopy past huckleberry, blueberry and inkberry before encountering the soothing sight of wide open, windswept salt marsh.

In 1994, the DeFulvio family donated over eleven acres of upland forest and salt marsh near the Herring River to the Harwich Conservation Trust. According to the family's wishes, the generous gift of land was named the A. Janet DeFulvio Wildlife Sanctuary Boardwalk.

The boardwalk offers a viewing deck and a bench, both with a wide open vista of salt marsh stretched along the Herring River.

Later, the Trust implemented a stewardship plan which called for awheelchair accessible boardwalk providing access to the wide open salt marsh views. Community support was heartening. Local businesses donated their time and materials in a cooperative effort to create a 150-foot boardwalk and bench. AmeriCorps-Cape Cod volunteers completed the project in May 2001.

Call or email for our color trail guide which provides maps showing easy access to both the boardwalk and the walking trails of the Coy's Brook Woodlands.
