ABOUT HCT
The Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT) is a leader in creating public-private land conservation partnerships that sustain Harwich as a livable, vibrant community for current and future generations. Harwich's sandy beaches, windswept marshes, quiet woods, and sun-dappled waters create a fragile place that is home to residents and a destination for seasonal residents. Over-development erodes the environmental qualities that shape our sense of place. HCT seeks to preserve Harwich's quality of life by protecting priority lands because it is the smart, practical, necessary thing to do for ourselves, our families, our town, our region.

CAPE COD
Cape Cod is an area of Massachusetts that includes beaches, salt marshes, sand dunes, woodlands and lovely ocean-side towns. Harwich is a rural ocean community, quiet during the off-season (late fall through early spring) and bustling with activity during the rest of the year. There is much to do on the Cape from shopping in charming crafts and artisans’ shops, going on whale watches off the coast and enjoying the many public beaches. In addition, federal lands such as Monomoy Island National Wildlife Refuge and the Cape Cod National Seashore offer unique opportunities for walking, nature viewing and historical tours. While interns spend the majority of their time at HCT, these incredible opportunities are close by and able to be enjoyed during time off.

REMUNERATION
Our internships are unpaid, but housing which is extremely expensive in the area is provided for the successful candidate. The opportunities we provide to gain experience in this field are significant. All required training is provided. The internship period will be a challenging and memorable experience. We thank you, in advance, for your commitment and interest.

TRANSPORTATION
Interns are required to make their own travel arrangements to HCT. All HCT interns are required to have personal automobile transportation. Public transportation is available, but limited, and is most useful for sightseeing rather than running errands.

We will make every effort to make your program an experience of learning and enhancement, to introduce new concepts and ideas and encourage you to share your knowledge with us and with the other interns.

HOUSING
Housing is available for interns. The bedrooms are set up dormitory style with 1 to 2 students per room. There will be a $250 refundable cash deposit required upon arrival. This deposit will be refunded upon return of the key, and following a room inspection at the end of the stay.

KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY
Interns have access to a kitchen with cooking utensils, stove, and coffee maker but must supply their own food. There is also a separate washer and dryer available on-site for interns but they must provide their own detergent.
